To empower individuals and organisations striving to advance equity by supporting the creation of memorials, monuments, and community initiatives that recognise and celebrate shared Commonwealth heritage.
Mission
In pursuit of this vision, the Foundation’s mission is to be a leading strategic civic platform dedicated to amplifying the voices, status, and opportunities of Commonwealth citizens and marginalised communities across the UK. Through community consultation, education, research, advocacy, and partnership, the Foundation advances visibility, representation, and equal recognition by embedding the principles of Equity, Remembrance, and Recognition within national and local policy frameworks.
The Commonwealth Memorials Foundation’s CADRE initiative represents not just projects, but a shift in national narrative: one that recognises, honours, and empowers UK and Commonwealth citizens.
With your project we can:
Showcase projects nationwide – Highlight successful community and commemorative initiatives across the UK, inspiring similar projects and fostering pride in shared heritage.
Expand community consultations – Engage wider audiences through structured dialogue and inclusive participation, ensuring that all voices are heard in shaping local and national heritage.
Strengthen intercultural dialogue – Promote understanding and cooperation between diverse communities, building bridges through shared remembrance and common values.
Collaborate on research and develop educational programmes – Work with academic and cultural partners to design learning resources that better inform society about our shared Commonwealth heritage and contributions.
Collate and preserve archives and heritage collections – Support the documentation, restoration, and digital preservation of materials that safeguard the memory and legacy of Commonwealth service and sacrifice for future generations.
Build the foundations for long-term peace, unity, and equity – Create enduring platforms that encourage collaboration, mutual respect, and collective responsibility.
Together, we can ensure that our cause for the deserving, underrepresented and the Commonwealth continues to gain recognition and as such these voices are heard, valued, and remembered not just in history books, but in the living fabric of our communities.
We are proud to be the driving force behind landmark projects, including the UK’s first Commonwealth War Memorial (outside London) in Bradford, a national model of remembrance and intercultural dialogue.
The Commonwealth Cadre is more than a programme. It is a movement.
CADRE challenges inequity, dismantles prejudice, and drives inclusive development. Our approach is rooted in grassroots consultation, cultural heritage, and academic collaboration.

To empower individuals and organisations striving to advance equity by supporting the creation of memorials, monuments, and community initiatives that recognise and celebrate shared Commonwealth heritage.
We work to ensure that citizens of Commonwealth and other backgrounds, that are too often underrepresented or overlooked can access fair opportunities and rightful recognition in the UK.
Our approach combines cultural empowerment, remembrance, education, and dialogue to strengthen civic identity, foster community cohesion, and build collective pride. At its heart, our mission is to secure equal acknowledgement of the Commonwealth’s contributions past, present, and future within British society through Equity, Remembrance and Recognition.
We promote fairness, inclusion, and equal opportunity, ensuring that all communities are represented, respected, and able to participate fully in national and local life.
Remembrance
We honour the shared sacrifices and contributions of Commonwealth communities throughout history, fostering collective memory and intergenerational understanding.
Recognition
We strive to ensure that the achievements and identities of marginalised and Commonwealth communities are visible, valued, and celebrated as an integral part of Britain’s story.
Impact
This approach ensures that the historical and contemporary contributions of these communities are acknowledged, valued, and integrated into the wider social and cultural fabric of modern Britain.
